Door intercom - Do you know that? The doorbell rings and you would like to know who is outside without opening the door. Not every visitor is welcome or allowed to enter a building without being asked. There are door intercom sets or intercom systems for this. These devices offer the convenience of first communicating with visitors and only then deciding whether or not to allow a person entry. Here in the eibabo® online shop you can get door intercom sets for detached houses, apartment buildings and building complexes. Depending on the model, these only transmit audio signals or are equipped with cameras and screens. The respective outdoor stations are always weatherproof and withstand rain, wind and sun. Lighting or separate nameplates are sometimes available. You can contact the people outside via the associated indoor stations. The cameras in many sets transmit in color and also reproduce a good picture at night or in poor lighting. Depending on the model, numerous additional functions and integration into building automation are possible. How does a door intercom set work? The basic function of a door intercom system is simply explained. Such a system usually consists of an outdoor station with one or more buttons. The number of buttons depends on the number of participants. An individual indoor station is assigned to each button. These can be different residential units, but also departments, floors or direct contact persons (e.g. security personnel). This enables communication with each participant from the outside. If the participant in the building responds to the ringing, the people can talk to each other and, depending on the model, also see each other. What options does a door intercom set offer? As a rule, the possibilities of a door intercom set go beyond the simple basic functions mentioned. A door intercom set can offer the possibility of opening doors. This function is normally set up with a cable via the indoor station. If the set has a camera, the intercom can be configured to record and save videos or images at the entrance. This is particularly useful when there are potential security breaches or post-incident evaluations that need to be made.NoticeIn many countries, the handling of personal data is strictly regulated. Please consider the regulations applicable in your country when storing recordings of your visitors.Door intercom sets with video make it easier for participants to manage access. Messengers, deliverers, colleagues, friends, family or representatives are better recognized than through pure audio communication. It can also be seen whether other people want to enter the building. Modern systems are equipped with functions for mobile remote control. This means that a participant does not have to be on the property to grant access. A smartphone app makes it possible to respond to bells and unlock the doors remotely. This means that deliveries can be deposited or other services can be carried out without the participant having to be present.Classic application examples for door intercom sets are:Detached houses with the bell on a distant property lineOffice building with several departments / floors and a large number of employees to individually control visitor accessApartment buildings in which individual residents manage their own visitor access via an apartment intercomBuildings with a central control point for visitor access (concierge, reception, facilities manager or security service)Buildings with more than one entrance to be controlled and several participants with their own visitor management Image: Siedle SET CVB 850-2 video setIs a door intercom set with a camera always better than one without a camera? At this point, we don't want to rate whether a specific door intercom set is better or worse. It is usually a question of the requirements and the area of application. Audio-based door intercom sets are recommended if the security requirements and the need for additional functions are manageable. These models offer a certain level of comfort at reasonable prices. However, modern security concepts almost always require video surveillance. Here we differentiate between one-way systems and two-way systems. With one-way systems, the participant can see an image of the visitor. The visitor cannot see the participant.Two-way systems allow participants and visitors to see each other. The technology keeps getting better and cheaper, which gives you a number of advantages when buying a video-based system. However, the possibilities for using these advantages also depend on the type and complexity of the system and on the integration into the building management system. These facilities offer:More safetyThe participants responsible for access control can visually and verbally verify the identity of a visitor. The recording and storage of video data can deter unauthorized persons.remote accessA smartphone and an internet connection are enough to manage the access control. Personal presence is not required.ease of accessAuthorized visitors gain access via biometric identifiers. It is not necessary to carry keys, cards or codes.Integration with external systemsVideo intercoms can be linked to other systems. These include security devices and monitoring systems as well as systems for delivery management, visitor management and building management. This reduces redundancies, improves efficiency and lowers costs. How is the power supply for a door intercom set to be provided?Door intercom sets require a power supply. Be it for the button, the camera, the indoor station or the mechanism for opening the door. Depending on the model, the power source can be the building's normal power supply or Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) if the system is connected to a network. The number of participants and the type of power source can greatly affect the cost of installing a door intercom set. TIP:We recommend an emergency power supply for PoE systems. This ensures that the access and the bell work even if the Internet service is interrupted. In the eibabo® shop you can get emergency power supplies for integration into your building management at top conditions. What are the advantages of wireless door intercom sets?Hardwired door intercom sets require wired connections to each participant. Depending on the number of participants and the size of the building, this can cause considerable costs. You can solve this problem with a wireless door intercom set. This reduces the installation costs. On the other hand, the system must have the required bandwidth and range to be able to reliably reach every participant. In difficult environments, the use of range amplifiers is recommended. If the number of participants is expected to increase, a system should be scalable. A wired system can only be expanded by adding more wiring. With a wireless door intercom set, the number of participants can be adjusted more easily.  Catalogue content:In this eibabo® catalogue Communication technique > Door station set you will find items from the following product groups:Item overview:Access controlApartment buildingDetached houseDetached house packageDoor bellDoor speakerDoor stationDoor statueDoorbell systemDoorphone setFamily house setHands-free deviceIntercomModular designMulti systemNight visionOutstationRelay outputSales packageSignal distributorSingle family setSpeaking unitThree family house setTwo family house packageTwo-family houseVideo intercom kitVideo packWide angle camerafrom the following manufacturers:Manufacturer overview catalogue Door intercom:Comelit GroupElcomGiraGrotheHuber + Söhne WHDIndexaLegrand SEKORittoSiedleSomfySTRTCS
Function module door station - Are you sure you have experienced this before? Someone is ringing the doorbell and you would like to know who it is. However, you don't want to open the door just yet, because not every visitor is welcome. Find out here what you need for optimal communication between 'inside' and 'outside' and which properties the different function modules of a door station can have.A door intercom is a practical device because, for security reasons, not every stranger should be allowed to enter a building without asking. Door phones offer the convenience of communicating with visitors first. Only then will a decision be made as to whether a person will be granted entry or not. The function module at the entrance is of particular importance. Depending on the type, scope and equipment, you have numerous opportunities to influence comings and goings. Incidentally, this not only applies to private property with a single-family house, but also to apartment buildings with many residential units, commercial properties or company buildings with parking spaces, storage areas and delivery zones.Which function modules are there for door stations?Depending on the complexity, a door station consists of one or more indoor stations and one or more outdoor stations. The modules presented in this category are designed for external installation, offer numerous functions and are often modular in design. This gives you maximum freedom in planning, installation, operation and expansion. In our online shop we carry the following function modules and accessories:Switching modules, bell modules, bells and combined bell and light modulesCover and dummy modules as well as front panelsaudio modules and speaker modulescomplete video front-door stations, communication columns and door hands-free systemsCode lock modules, keypad modules and code buttonsDisplay modules and information modulesTransponder modules and card reader modulesModules for key switches and lock modulesLetter slot flaps and motion detectors In the following text we will go into more detail about individual modules.Image: Siedle TM 612-2 AG button moduleWhat is the difference between the bell modules for the door station? The simplest models are the bell modules. These consist only of one or more bell buttons. You usually have the option of attaching name tags. Some variants offer an additional button to switch on the entrance lighting. You can choose these depending on the style and color of your building. When it comes to the materials, you have the choice between plastic, elegant glass or robust metal. The modules with an additional hands-free facility are somewhat more comprehensive. Assuming a compatible indoor station, it is possible to speak and hear each other. These variants already offer a higher level of security. By communicating, you will find out who is at the door and why that person rang your bell.More complex function modules also offer a camera. This is particularly convenient because now you can also see the visitor. It can also be seen whether other people are present. Function modules with a camera are typically set up as a one-way system. That is, the person in the building can see an image of the visitor. However, the visitor does not see the person in the building. If required, complete video front-door stations and door hands-free systems with screens are also available. These are then usually designed as two-way systems. What functions do display modules and information modules offer?Display modules often supplement the bell modules or replace large keypads with many bell buttons. Their display is used to show important information such as names, house numbers, directions, opening hours or rules of conduct. Depending on the model, use the keys or the display to navigate to the person you want and then ring out. TIP:Display modules are the right thing for complex systems. Such devices manage up to several hundred participants in the smallest of spaces. These modules are therefore a compact alternative to properties with many residential units or office complexes. The manufacturers supply special software for parameterizing the participants. Special programming knowledge is not required. How do code lock modules and fingerprint modules work?Of course, you can get numerous special modules from eibabo®, for example if you want to install access control via a keypad module. Entering a numeric code allows a person access to the building. Depending on the model and system size, several hundred access codes can also be programmed here. The input keys are usually designed in such a way that people with visual impairments can feel the position of the individual fields. After entering the access code, you will receive visual and/or acoustic feedback as to whether you have been granted access or not. You can use code lock modules, or electronic key modules, as a stand-alone solution or in combination with other modules.A module with the fingerprint sensor offers a high level of security. Access is quick and easy by placing a finger. A sensor captures the fingerprint and compares it with the fingerprints previously stored in the system. Once the person has been identified, the system can authorize access.NoticeFingerprint modules offer enormous advantages. On the one hand, people do not have to remember any access codes. On the other hand, there is no risk of someone forgetting or losing their key. There are two types of fingerprint modules. With an optical sensor, the image of a print is captured and converted in such a way that it can be processed by the algorithm for identification. A capacitive fingerprint sensor uses a series of tiny capacitor circuits to scan a finger's profile. Using the resulting image, a processor searches for matches to the attributes stored in the database. What are card reader modules and transponder modules? You know card readers from paying with your bank card. The card reading modules for door stations work in a similar way and grant access to the building by inserting or laying on a card (optionally with additional entry of a code). Like other modules, these can also be used as a stand-alone solution or in combination with other access control systems. Transponder modules are comparable with this. Here a transponder is used to open an access. This is often in the form of a keychain. What should I look out for when buying a function module for door stations?Depending on the type of door station, function modules offer a wide variety of options. We have already presented numerous options, starting with the simple ringing of a bell, through video communication to individual access solutions. Simply choose a system that meets your requirements. What other things should you consider? For how many participants does the module have to be designed? Is a later extension to be considered? How and where is the module installed (flush, surface, column)? Is the module exposed to particular loads (dirt, vandalism, weather)?Should the module also be operable by children and people with disabilities? Is the identity of each person recorded?Do I want to combine it with time management and create documentation? Are there permission levels for specific areas? Can the functional module be integrated into a building management system?and much more At eibabo® you will always find high-quality products from selected manufacturers that exactly match your needs and requirements. Walkway lights - With optimally placed path lights, you not only create a fantastic lighting ambience in your outdoor area, but also improve orientation in the dark and thus ensure more safety. Path lights are not only used for the basic lighting of outdoor areas, but you can also set elegant light accents with them. Find out more about the technology and possible uses of modern lights for paths, streets and paths in the following article. What types of path lights are there? The manufacturers of lamps and lights offer a huge range of different shapes. We distinguish path lights according to the following styles:Floor lamps and floor lampsThis is the classic shape of path lights. The models usually have a base in the form of a stele or column. The light element is located on it, which is usually protected from rain and snow by a small roof. The light is thus emitted in all directions below the roof, but not upwards.downlightsDownlights are like small spotlights that focus the light directly onto the path. The light cone is rather small with these lights. Used correctly, this form of path lights ensures precise accent lighting. Distribute the lights carefully and interestingly to avoid associations with a runway.bollard lightsShaped as columns or steles, bollard lights illuminate your path and the surrounding areas of the property. Depending on the design, the lights radiate 360° or only in a certain direction. Often the bulb is not visible in the bollard, so the light is emitted indirectly. Like downlights, bollards require wide spacing to avoid over-lighting and are great for wide pathways and open spaces.Image: SLV 229410 bollard lightrecessed lightsIf lights are integrated in the path itself or in an adjacent wall, this arrangement has a particularly high-quality effect. However, this does not give you flexibility and the technology has to be installed during the construction phase. Flush recessed step lights ensure a special level of safety. What criteria should be considered when selecting path lights? You should pay special attention to the design, since path lights can also be seen in daylight. This allows you to use the lights as an additional eye-catcher on your property. When making your selection, make sure that they harmonize with the style concept of your outdoor area. Our huge range will surely help you to find a stylish model.Light, height and beam angle:Brightly shining path lights are more for a reduced and spacious environment. With narrow paths and lush plantings, muted and warmly glowing variants are more pleasant. Depending on the model, path lights have a more or less high body. This is responsible for the width of the light cone and the lighting effect that emanates from your path light. You can illuminate paths with a variety of different lights. In addition to floor lamps, bollard lamps or pedestal lamps are particularly popular, as these are usually between 60 cm and 120 cm high and are already an eye-catcher due to their size. If you want to achieve an even broader lighting effect, you should think about using mast lights. The mast light exceeds the height of pedestal lights or candelabra and is almost reminiscent of street lamps. If you prefer to use path lights for orientation in the dark and less as a representative light source, then marker lights with a lower brightness could be the best option for you. These are generally close to the ground and no higher than 60 cm.Power supply:When it comes to power supply, you basically have four options: solar, battery, low voltage or mains voltage. Solar lights can be set up in no time. Simply stick these into the ground in a suitable sunny spot and wait for the sun to set. However, the light output is low and the lights are used more for orientation and less for lighting. Battery-powered models are just as flexible as the solar lights. Reliability and performance depend on the current battery charge level. Low voltage lighting comes with transformer and is more reliable. However, the installation requires the laying of underground cables. For the basic supply of electricity, a socket with mains voltage is usually required. Cables must also be laid for path lights with mains voltage supply. In principle, however, these represent a solid and durable alternative to the other variants and therefore form the most extensive product group here in the shop.TIPWhen laying cables outdoors, special attention must be paid to safety. Have this work carried out by an experienced electrician and only use suitable cables. Use waterproof gel sleeves for connections.Assembly:There are different installation options for path lights depending on the design. The assembly is partly dependent on the power supply. Solar lights and battery-powered lights are usually intended for flexible use. These can be easily stuck into the ground with a skewer or placed directly on the ground. Such lights can be removed or repositioned without tools. A permanent mounting option is the concrete foundation. Path lights with a concrete foundation are particularly robust and can easily withstand strong winds and other influences. All wired lights should be fixed as solidly as possible. This is primarily for security. It quickly happens that a person or the robotic lawnmower accidentally bumps into it. If the attachment is not sufficient, connections can quickly be damaged in these cases and open contacts can occur. You do not want to use lights with a concrete foundation, but still want a stationary and stable installation? Then you can use screw-on path lights. These models are installed on stone slabs on paths and terraces. Optical highlightsBetter built-in than free-standing: Some path lights can be recessed into the ground along the path or built into walls, posts or steps. bulbs:The majority of our range is equipped with light-emitting diodes (LEDs). LED bulbs are energy efficient and emit very little heat. LEDs consume significantly less electricity than conventional incandescent lamps or halogen lamps for the same amount of light. Their durability and service life is also many times over. In addition to high energy efficiency and a longer service life, another major advantage of LED lamps is that they produce fewer emissions, contain no lead or mercury and therefore emit fewer toxic gases and CO?. The LED bulbs of a well-designed path lighting give the night view of your path or driveway a very special charm. You will also occasionally find models with conventional light sources here in the shop.As you can see, there are many options for path lighting. Your choice depends on the environment, the technology and the complexity of the installation. Finally, two tipsIf you want to light a path, you almost always need more than one light. It can therefore be advantageous to use a set. If your preferred model is not available in a set, you are welcome to send us an inquiry. Depending on the manufacturer and the purchase quantity, graduated prices may be negotiable.Path lights with replaceable light sources can be equipped with modern LED torches. These simulate a play of flames and have a particularly romantic effect both in summer and in winterYou can get pedestal lights and path lights in the eibabo® range at reasonable prices. Well-known manufacturers of high-quality lights include Zumtobel, Trilux, Theben, Opple Lightning, Eglo, Siedle, Steinel, SLV, EVN and many others.  Catalogue content:In this eibabo® catalogue Luminaires > Luminaire bollard you will find items from the following product groups:Item overview:Arc lampBelt lensBollard lightCeiling lightFootpath lampGarden spotlightGround spike lightInfrared sensor lightInground lightInterior lightLamp headLight objectMast lightMasterMasterMotion detectorMotion sensor lightMounted spotlightOrientation lightOutdoor lightOutdoor lightingOutdoor spotlightParking lightShrub lightingSpike lightStone lampStreet lightTable lampTube lampfrom the following manufacturers:Manufacturer overview catalogue Walkway lights:Albert LeuchtenBEGA GantenbrinkBrumbergEgloESYLUXEVNIDVKonstsmideLEDVANCELeipzigerMeyer + SohnOpple LightingPerformance in LightPhilips LichtRZBScharnberger+Has.SiedleSignify LampenSLVSteinelThebenTriluxTrio-LeuchtenZumtobel
Dc power supply - Are you looking for a reliable DC power supply within your electrical installation? But you need more information to be able to decide on a specific device? In the following article we clarify frequently asked questions and support you in choosing the right device. At eibabo® we list a large number of switching devices for low voltage. This allows you to implement a DC power supply that can be used in electrical distribution installations in low-voltage networks. What is a DC power supply?Devices for the direct current supply supply the consumers connected to your electrical distribution system (fuse box or distribution cabinet) with low voltage. The scope of performance of the devices we offer ranges from under 5V to 12V, 24V, 48V to 54V.Good to knowWhen electric current flows, charge carriers move. If the voltage has the same polarity continuously, the direction of movement of electrons and protons is also constant and it is direct current. If the polarity changes periodically, the direction of movement of the charge carriers also changes. Then there is alternating current. Most of the devices are mounted on the DIN rail in the control cabinet. In home automation and building technology, flush-mounted power supplies are also increasingly being used, which you can install directly in flush-mounted boxes (deep switch boxes). Discover a large selection of high-quality DC power supply products with us. These include, for exampleDC/DC converterCompact power supplies, power supplies and power packsSwitching power supplies and switching power supplies (for mounting on DIN rails, for surface mounting, for flush mounting and for fixed installations)as well as primary switching regulators, transformer rectifiers and wide-range switching power supplies What are DC/DC converters?DC/DC converters are used wherever one direct voltage has to be converted into another. In other words, DC/DC converters convert the power of a direct current (DC) source from one voltage level to another. In this case, the input energy is temporarily stored and then delivered to the output with a different voltage. The output voltage can be either higher or lower than the input voltage. Electrical energy is stored either in magnetic field storage components (such as a transformer) or in electric field storage components (such as a capacitor). The devices will not work with AC power sources. Good to know:The devices for direct current supply are characterized by a very favorable price-performance ratio and a high level of efficiency. Considering efficiency is important because there are power losses when converting between different voltage levels. Depending on the voltage, current and type of DC/DC converter, the efficiency varies from 75% to 95% or more. What are DC power supplies? In contrast to DC/DC converters, DC power supplies are supplied with AC voltage and provide a specific DC output voltage. The devices are available with different performance data, among other things in order to meet the sometimes different mains voltages in many regions of the world. On the other hand, the various electronic components in an installation require different voltages to achieve their highest efficiency values. In addition to direct current power supplies, which supply a fixed constant voltage, you will also find power supplies with dual outputs or multiple outputs at eibabo. Each output can have a different constant voltage. You are thus able to supply several loads with different operating voltages from one power pack.Power supply or power supply?A power supply is usually a compact device that usually supplies a fixed voltage. A power supply unit, on the other hand, is more complex and expensive. This means that several voltages can often be set variably. In Europe, 12V and 24V power supplies are the most common. Our range of products covers the power range from below 5V to 54V. The spectrum ranges from small, narrow, efficient power supplies to very powerful DC power supplies, converters and complex power supplies. What is the difference between a transformer, a transformer rectifier and a switching power supply?A transformer is a component consisting of coils, copper wire and an iron core. Typically, a transformer increases or decreases electrical voltages. Incoming AC voltage is converted into outgoing AC voltage in a certain ratio. The device does not transform AC voltage into DC voltage. A transformer always uses AC voltage, while a power supply unit uses DC voltage.A transformer rectifier is something like the predecessor of the switching power supply and is only used occasionally today. The device generates DC voltage from AC voltage. With an internal transformer, this device also increases or decreases incoming AC power. The AC voltage is rectified by means of a bridge circuit and then smoothed by a capacitor. A built-in linear regulator on some models ensures that the output voltage is kept at a constant level. These devices are called regulated power supplies, while models without a linear regulator are called unregulated power supplies. A capacitor for short-term damping of voltage peaks is also not installed in all models. The direct current can be taken from the device output. A major disadvantage of these devices is the relatively high permanent power consumption, even when no consumer is connected. The switching power supply is the further development of the transformer rectifier. Here, too, an AC voltage is converted into a larger or smaller AC voltage by a transformer. For safety reasons, the primary circuit (e.g. with 230V mains voltage) is galvanically isolated from the secondary circuit (e.g. with 12V). A bridge rectifier now generates the required direct current, which is also smoothed here by a capacitor.Image: Eltako SNT12-230V/24VDC-1A switching power supplyWhat are wide range power supplies?Power supplies with a 'wide range' on the input side can be operated with different nominal voltages. These devices do not have to be adjusted manually or automatically to the nominal voltage applied.Which devices for DC power supply are recommended? When purchasing a DC power supply, make sure the device meets your requirements for the intended use. Recommended devices for DC power supply are characterized by:a high quality finisha very good efficiencya high energy efficiency You will find the information on efficiency and all other technical specifications in the data sheets as well as in the product description of the respective devices. Here in the shop you only get devices from top manufacturers. These include Eaton, Eltako, Jung, MDT, Phoenix, Omron, Merten, Siemens and many other well-known manufacturers. Blind switch-push button - Do you have numerous windows and would like to operate your blinds or roller shutters easily and conveniently at the push of a button? No problem. If your shading has drive motors, you can easily control the up and down with a blind switch. With blind switches from the eibabo® shop, you can dispense with the hassle of manually opening and closing and equip your building with a high-quality electric blind control. If you want it to be particularly convenient, then products from our smart home range might also be an option for you. Talk to us, we are specialists in the field of building automation.Image: Busch Jaeger 2000/4 US shutter switch insertWhat are blind switches?Blind switches or buttons for roller shutters are components for controlling blinds and roller shutters. However, it is also possible to connect drives for opening and closing awnings, roller shutters and similar things. The polarity is reversed by operating the respective rocker switches or buttons or by turning a toggle or a key in different directions. This causes the actuator or motor to be controlled in two different directions. Please noteYou cannot use a normal switch to control blinds. In the case of blind buttons or blind switches, the control is interlocked. This means that there can be either only the up command or the down command. Simultaneous actuation in both directions is not possible. In addition to the simple switches and buttons, models with a latching function, rotary key switches, variants with remote control or radio control and devices with a bus connection for home automation are also available. The switches for surface mounting and flush mounting are also available.Special features of the classic roller shutter switchThe classic among roller shutter switches looks like a light switch. Installed in a conventional switch box or surface-mounted, operation is usually carried out using two buttons (up button and down button) or a two-way button. Normally you have to press the respective button until the desired position of the shading is reached. The motor stops when a button is released. The same applies to the rocker switch with the two-way button. With a latching switch, you press the button for the corresponding direction and the motor opens or closes the shade to the end position. If you want to stop this process, you can do so using a stop function. This is triggered by pressing it again or in the opposite direction.Special features of a rotary switch / toggle switch for blinds and roller shuttersTechnically, the rotary switch is identical to the classic roller shutter switch. The difference lies in the operation. With these models, you turn the so-called knob to the left or right to determine the direction in which the motor runs. Here, too, you have the choice between models with a locking function or variants in which you have to hold the toggle in the desired position.qualityAll blind switches in the eibabo® technology store come from well-known manufacturers such as Berker, Gira, Somfy, Jung, Siemens, Hager and Busch Jaeger. We regularly use this high-quality branded product in our own projects.Special features of a key switch for blinds and roller shuttersA key switch is rarely used in private rooms. In publicly accessible areas, however, the rotary key switch offers effective protection against use by unauthorized persons. A key is required for operation, which is turned in the lock to the left or right for the desired direction. Here, too, a snap-in function is optionally possible. Such a switch is usually surrounded by a solid metal housingAdvantages and disadvantages of manual blind controlThis purely mechanical type of control is comparatively simple and works depending on the type of shading:by means of a rotatable shaft, which is manually driven by a torsion bar or a crankpurely due to the gravity of the roller shutters or awnings - often a belt causes the shading to be lowered and pulled up The systems are robust and mostly low-maintenance. In comparison to the automatic solution, it is operated entirely without electricity. The shading can thus be controlled independently of existing lines or the availability of electricity. In addition, this variant is easier to install. No cables need to be laid. Manual control is usually cheaper than automatic control. With a manual blind control, it is not possible to group several shadings and regulate them together. Each window must be adjusted individually. It is also not possible to open or close according to a predetermined time setting, the position of the sun or the wind load.Advantages and disadvantages of an electric blind controlThe main advantage of the electrified blind control is the increased comfort. The basic functionality is identical to manual control. But instead of having to turn the crank, you can simply open and close your shading with the push of a button. With appropriate cabling, several windows can be operated simultaneously, but not independently of each other. The disadvantages are the higher installation costs and the dependence on electricity. In the event of a power failure, it is generally not possible to move the shading. The electrical control forms the basis for automating the system. However, this is not yet a 'real' automation. This offers even more comfort.Advantages and disadvantages of automatic blind controlThere are countless ways to respond to personal needs or environmental influences with automatic control. With the term 'Smart Home' we describe the automation of buildings or apartments in which all technical communication is combined in a single network. With sensors and actuators, the intelligent house handles many processes independently, including the control of roller shutters, awnings, roller shutters and blinds:With light sensors, the shading is regulated automatically depending on the intensity of the natural light and the direction of the sun's rays.Temperature sensors set the shading in motion as soon as the temperature in the room rises above a set value.Timers ensure automatic timing.Weather stations and precipitation sensors react to wind and rain, retract the shading and protect it from damage.  TIPThe automated blind control can be wired or wireless, so the control can be central, decentralized or remote. This maximum level of comfort and flexibility is offset by higher installation costs for actuators, sensors and other software and hardware. In addition, when selecting wired devices, it is necessary to provide a separate data line. As a layman, you usually have to consult a specialist for the basic setup of the network. When the system is running, a lot of energy can also be saved with optimized processes. Installing automated shutters and blinds is a trendsetting way to control lighting in apartments and houses. This saves time, effort and energy. Power supply - Find out here how to supply your KNX bus system with power. What power requirements do the individual KNX participants have? Which items do we recommend? This eibabo catalog contains power supplies and system devices for various automation systems, such as LCN, radio bus, KNX and many other systems. How do I determine the right KNX power supply for my installation? The most common power supplies in this catalog are for the KNX bus system. To determine the required power supply, you should first look at the structure of a KNX network. A distinction is made here between segments that are divided into a specific hierarchy. Imagine a tree whose trunk splits into branches. Twigs come off the branches. The branches represent the smallest 'unit' and are referred to as lines in the KNX network. Each line consists of the power supply, a KNX bus line and the participants. A main line would be the branch that connects multiple lines into an area. The area line represents the trunk that connects multiple areas. This structure makes sense for larger networks or if a division into several segments is recommended due to the structural conditions of a building. In addition to the power supply for the participants, the bus itself also requires a power supply of 24V nominal voltage. This is transmitted along with the data signals on the bus line. Depending on the manufacturer, the corresponding power supplies deliver 28V to 31V slightly more than the nominal voltage. This creates a buffer, for example for possible line losses. KNX bus participants still work stably up to 21V. The voltage difference is used to compensate for voltage drops in the bus line or at the contact resistances. A line can theoretically include up to 64 devices and provides a maximum current of 640mA at a voltage of 28V to 31V. This statement is based on the assumption that each KNX participant is allowed a maximum of 10mA from the bus voltage. The load capacity of the strongest power supply of 640mA continuous current must not be exceeded. Please plan in reserveWhen dimensioning your lines, allow at least 15% buffer for later extensions. A 640mA power supply therefore corresponds to around 54 devices.Smaller KNX power supplies are also available for fewer participants per line. If you know in advance that a line will never have more than a maximum of 32 subscribers (27 with buffer), you can choose a 320mA power supply. The same applies to a line with a maximum of 16 devices (14 with buffer). A 160mA power supply is sufficient here. In addition, there are larger 29V-30V power supplies with current limiters 640mA and KNX chokes separately. A KNX power supply always contains a KNX choke. The power requirement of a KNX participant is usually standardized. This should not normally exceed 200mW. 150mW for power supply of the microprocessor and 50mW for the bus terminal. There are many KNX devices that do not require this power reference. There are also KNX participants with higher requirements, for example KNX actuators, KNX room controllers or KNX displays. Please take this into account when sizing your lines. Pay attention to possible voltage drops, because the devices do not draw a certain current from the bus, but a certain power. If the maximum current is expected to be exceeded, you should integrate fewer than 64 participants in this line. How does the KNX power supply work?In the KNX power supply, the power supply always provides direct current (DC) at the output. The difference between the designation transformer and power supply is essentially that a classic transformer always outputs alternating current (AC) and also only works with alternating current at the input. Depending on the manufacturer, the power supplies generate a supply voltage of 28V to 31V. When the bus is idle, the supply voltage of the power pack is present. This state corresponds to a logical '1'. The logical '0' is generated by an alternating voltage. In order to send the '0', the sending KNX device reduces the voltage by around 5V for a short time. This results in an immediate compensating impulse, which comes from a choke integrated in the power pack. The KNX line is thus decoupled from the associated KNX power supply by the choke. This prevents short circuits in the data telegrams caused by the power pack. The voltage change is necessary so that the recipient can use the informationAre there KNX power supplies for more than 64 participants per line?In the eibabo® technology store you will find KNX power supplies up to 1280mA. However, it is not possible to set up a line with 128 participants. The power is distributed at two different outputs. There is thus the classic choked output with 640mA for the KNX bus as well as another unchoked output. Participants can be supplied with an auxiliary voltage via this output, for example a heatable rain sensor. Alternatively, you can use it to set up a second line. An additional choke is required for this.Image: Siemens 5WG11525-1AB22 KNX power supplyCan I monitor the utilization of a power supply? If you want to check whether a power supply is reaching its limits in use, we recommend a device with an integrated diagnostic function. This allows device temperature, output current, output voltage, bus traffic and other current measured values to be sent via KNX. This enables troubleshooting or general monitoring. What do I need a KNX emergency power supply for?Whether you need a KNX emergency power supply depends on how high you assess the risk of a power failure and its consequences for your system. The emergency power supply is used to buffer the bus voltage. An external battery is connected to the device. This provides a voltage of 12V DC and ensures the bus voltage for some time. The integrated charging electronics of the KNX emergency power supply recharges the battery or maintains the state of charge. You can record the operating states (mains voltage, error warning, battery operation) using a binary input, for example. As a rule, KNX emergency power supplies are mounted on the DIN rail. Both the KNX emergency power supplies and the required batteries are available here in the eibabo® shop at reasonable prices. What does PoE power supply mean? The abbreviation PoE stands for 'Power over Ethernet'. This allows you to transmit the electrical power required for the operation of the individual participants via the data lines of the network cable. You do not need a separate power cable. TIP:With a PoE power supply, the effort involved in cabling wired Ethernet networks is reduced. With this technology, the electrical voltage from the power supply is fed into the data cable. On the participant's side, this is diverted out again. To avoid interference, the participant should be PoE compatible. In this way, it can cleanly separate the incoming supply voltage from the data signal. If the end device is not PoE-compatible, the additional installation of a passive PoE splitter is necessary. The splitter takes the supply voltage from the data cable and feeds it via a separate line to the power input of the end device. Can I get classic 12V and 24V power supplies for conventional applications from eibabo®?Our classic power packs for the top-hat rail can be regulated depending on the model and are suitable for the power supply of external equipment. In addition, it is possible to use these for other equipment. Using a choke and a component for current limitation each, specific power supply units can also be used to supply one or more KNX lines. In addition to the installation technology, we offer you classic power supplies for universal use. What power supplies and manufacturers would you recommend?Basically, we recommend that you choose a device that suits your needs. Voltage supplies / power packs are standardized and are subject to legal requirements and regulations. If the technical parameters are completely identical, a price comparison between different manufacturers is of course worthwhile. In this catalog you will find KNX power supplies, KNX power supplies, KNX commissioning power supplies, KNX emergency power supplies, PoE power supplies, bus power supplies, IP power supplies PoE, battery modules for KNX power supplies, 12V power supplies and 24V power supplies for conventional applications.
